I stopped watching House after last year’s finale (if you’ve seen it, I won’t have to explain why); the show had been going downhill for a while and I just finally gave up on it…
I didn’t see another ep until this Tuesday. I was visiting my sister and she wanted to watch the ep and I agreed….
I stopped reading after the first sentence.
^This is what is wrong with society.
You watch a show about a self loathing cynic named ‘House’. You expect him to be nice and polite about a subject like asexuality because.. it somehow offends you when he isn’t? Or because it’s just wrong to be anything but courteous and supportive? It’s his character! For fuck’s sake. House’s logic is flawless. It is based on fact and reason, not ethics or morals. A chemically and physically healthy human being wants to have sex. It’s programmed into our being. If you do not want to have sex, there is something wrong. It does not make you a better or worse person just like having a disease or liking a different colour does not make you a better or worse person. But when discussing in reference to evolution, there is undoubtedly something wrong. It is not the job of a show, however popular, to defend a minority from the viewpoint of a fictional character.
House might be an insensitive jerk, but I would at least expect some intelligence from the people watching the show.
I pity the fools that take life this seriously. Getting upset over a show and ranting about it on the internet, can live with it, but when it is this naive I just get sad.
So having a huge show like House, with a huge audience and therefore huge influence) call it non-existent, or simply the symptom of a biological defect, is not the way to go.
It is a fictional show with fictional characters. It is not there to teach people how to live their lives or what to think. The writers did not ‘make a mistake’ by writing this. It is in character, completely in line with the fictional world of Gregory House. The world is not an utopia. Not everything has to be politically correct.
It is not the job of a show, however popular, to defend a minority from the viewpoint of a fictional character.
